San Diego Christian College (SDCC) is a private, evangelical Christian college located in El Cajon, California. It was founded by Drs. Tim La Haye, Art Peters, and Henry Morris in 1970 as the Christian Heritage College. It assumed its present name in 2005.
San Diego Christian College maintains four core values: To Know God and Make Him Known, To Value God’s Image in Others, To Lead by Serving, and To Bring the Kingdom. It is affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention. Its doctrinal position accepts the absolute integrity of the Holy Scripture, the Triune God, the direct creation and divine preservation of all thing, man’s creation in God’s image, the pervasive influence of sin and the curse, the redemptive work of Jesus Christ, the centrality of the bodily resurrection of Christ, the imminent return of Christ, the personal salvation through faith in Jesus Christ, the real and the temporary nature of evil, the biblical framework of history, the Christians’ responsibility to society, the Great Commission, and the primacy of the local church. The college’s mission is primarily to engage Christians in an academic community.
Departments on the college’s academic division that offers a Bachelor of Science Degree include Biblical Studies with offered concentrations in Exposition, Intercultural Studies, Pastoral Ministry, and Youth Ministry; Christian Ministries; Communication; English; History/Social Science; Human Development; Interdisciplinary Studies; Music with offered concentrations in Professional Music Studies, Musical Theater and Worship Leading; and Psychology with concentrations in General Psychology and Counseling Psychology. The departments of Aviation, Biology, Business, Business Management, Kinesiology, and Liberal Studies offer Bachelor of Science degrees. Concentration options for Business include e-Business and Marketing while Kinesiology concentration options consist of Teaching/Coaching, Sports Medicine, and the Kinesiology minor Program. There are also various programs offered through Adult and Professional Studies. SDCC is accredited by the Senior Commission of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.
Tuition cost for full-time students of San Diego Christian College is $11,345.00 for 12 to 18 units per semester. Every unit over 18 costs $414.00. Part-time students pay $918.00 per unit. Room and board expense per semester is estimated at $4,161.00. There are other fees to be paid by students such as Student Life Fee, Technology Fee, Health Fee, Security Fee, and Parking Permit, among others. Students taking Adult Professional Studies Programs pay $414.00 per unit whether onsite or online.
Financial aid is provided through Federal Grants, CAL Grants, SDCC Grants and Scholarships, Private Scholarships, Scholarships for Aviation Students, Educational Loan, Work Study Program, and VA Benefits. Adult Professional Studies students must be enrolled in at least 6 units per semester to be eligible for federal aid. Payment plans are likewise made available to students.
San Diego Christian College competes in several sports programs including cross-country, soccer, basketball, volleyball, baseball, and track in the Golden State Athletic Conference of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Division I. The teams are known as the SDCC Hawks. SDCC seeks to develop student-athlete spiritually, academically, and aesthetically.
The total student population is approximately 471. Male and female ratio is 3:2. Fifty percent are residents while fifty percent are commuters. Students come from 29 states and 14 countries. Student/faculty ratio is 14:1.
