Pensacola Christian College (PCC) is a fundamentalist, Independent Baptist College located at Pensacola, Florida. It traces its roots to the Pensacola Christian School, a grade school founded in 1954 by Dr. Arlin and Beka Horton. They opened the Pensacola Christian College in 1974 and went on to establish the Pensacola Theological Seminary in 1998.
PCC beliefs are primarily based on the Bible. It considers the “Textus Receptus” as the Superior Greek Text and prefers the King James Version for use in Bible instruction and pulpit ministry. It specifically rejects the teachings of the modern day charismatic movement as well as Neo-Orthodoxy, Modernism, and Calvinism. Its lack of accreditation is caused to a certain extent by its strong religious and moral beliefs. PCC explained its less-than eager pursuance of accreditation to the fear of being pressured by an outside agency that doesn’t share its religious and moral stand to change or eliminate existing beliefs.
At present, the college is actively pursuing accreditation and has been awarded candidate status by the Transnational Association of Christian Colleges. Pending the attainment of full membership, Pensacola Christian College remains unaccredited. It should be noted however that the school’s Nursing Program is approved by the Florida State Board of Nursing which makes graduates eligible to apply for the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses.
