New Hope Christian College (NHCC) is a private Bible college located in Eugene. Oregon. It was founded in 1925 by Fred Hornshuh as part of the Open Bible Churches denomination. It was originally known as the Eugene Bible College which traces its roots to the Bible Standard Conference and the Open Bible Evangelistic Association. It adapted other names including Bible Standard College, Bible Standard Institute, and Bible Standard Training School. It adapted its present name in June 2010 when it joined the Pacific Rim Christian College Consortium.
New Hope Christian College operates under five core values which are making the college a place to develop students as servant-leaders; full devotion of students, faculty, and staff to God and His word; honor and daily practice of healthy biblical relationships; a resolute faith that is lived consistently; and the recognition of the presence of Jesus Christ and expressing it appropriately. Its primary mission is to mould Christian leaders through development of theology, character, and ministry skills. It stands by its motto of equipping students for leadership and ministry that is spirit-empowered.
Programs of study at New Hope Christian College include the Christian Counseling Program, Creative Arts Program, and the Ministry Leadership Program. Offered concentrations consist of Christian Education, Crisis Response, Cross-Cultural Studies, Interdisciplinary, Pastoral Studies, and Youth Ministry. The curriculum emphasizes the vocational application of Biblical training. New Hope Christian College is accredited by the Association for Biblical Higher Education. It also maintains membership with the Evangelical Training Association, National Association of Evangelicals, and the Association of Christian Schools International. It has been approved by the Oregon Office of Educational Policy and Planning to grant bachelor degrees. Online studies are offered through the NHCC Distance Education Programs.
Estimated educational cost per semester is $9,725.00 inclusive of tuition, room and board, and general fees. Tuition cost per hour is $500.00. Other possible expenses include cost of books, supplies, travel expenses, private lessons, independent studies, and personal needs. Tuition for online courses is $110.00 per credit hour.
Financial aid is provide through grants and other financial assistance programs such as the Pell Grant, S.E.O.G. Grant, Work Study, Stafford Loans, and PLUS Loan. Institutional assistance provided by NHCC includes the Honors Grant, the Ministerial Family Grant, Ignite Team Leader, Married Student Grant, and NHCC Scholarships. Work study is another form of financial assistance to help students with their educational expenses. Some of the work study positions offered by New Hope Christian College are duties in the library, food service, bookstore, facilities, and Multimedia/IT.
The athletic programs of New Hope Christian College emphasizes leadership, mentorship, self-confidence, mental strength, physical strength, coordination, team building, problem-solving, winning attitude, and perseverance. It is with these in mind that NHCC teams known as the Deacons compete in basketball, volleyball, and soccer. The college is a member of the National Christian Athletic Association.
Total student population is 120, 60% of which are men and 40% are women. Applicants must have a high school grade point average of at least 2.5 while transfer students must have a grade point average of at least 2.0. International students must be able to submit a Test of English as Foreign Language (TOEFL) score of at least 500. A transcript of course work showing satisfactory completion of required courses in the student’s home state is required for home-schooled students.
